Marystown Burin Employment Services

The Burin Peninsula Chamber of Commerce was proud to partner with Service Canada, and is now proud to be partnering with Human Resources Labour and Employment to bring the services offered by the Employment Services Office to the residents of the Marystown and Burin area. (Specifically Red Harbour to St. Lawrence and Garnish to Frenchman's Cove inclusive.)

The office is designed to assist individuals with career decisions/exploration, job search, skills development and employment maintenance.

They do this through the following Programs and Services:

  • Employment and Career Counselling
  • Career Exploration and Job Search
  • Resume Development and Interview Preparation
  • Assistance with accessing Government Funded Programs

Office Hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.

Paula Pelley

Paula joined the staff at the Marystown-Burin Employment Services in April 2007, in the Administrative Assistant position. In August of 2007 Paula was promoted to Employment Resource Officer, she was again promoted in May 2011 to an Employment Counsellor.  Paula graduated in 2005 from the College of the North Atlantic with a Diploma in Executive Office/Business Administration with courses in Business Communications, psychology, Career Choices, Accounting & Human Resources Management.

Employment Resource Officer
Christina Murphy

Christina is from Parker's Cove; she is married and has two children. She is a recent graduate from the College of the North Atlantic, Burin Campus with a diploma in Business Administration, specializing in Human Resources. Christina obtained her four week work term with Marystown-Burin Employment Services; once her work term was complete she was successful in receiving employment as an Employment Resource Officer. Christina's future plan is to complete her degree in Human Resources on-line through Athabasca University, Alberta.

Jennifer Strickland

Jennifer began at the Marystown Burin Employment Services in June 2010.  Prior to starting this position she was employed with the Burin Peninsula Chamber of Commerce for approximately one year.  She graduated from the Office Administration Program at College of the North Atlantic in May 2009.  Jennifer is the friendly face that greets all clients coming in to the office.

Connections

The Burin Peninsula Chamber of Commerce is proud to partner with Human Resources Labour and Employment to offer the residents of the area the Connections Program for the thrid consecutive year.

The Connections program is designed to help those individuals over the age of thirty who have barriers to employment gain the necessary skills to enable them to transition back into the workforce.  They gain these skills through attending short courses provided by a local educational institution, biweekly training/information sessions hosted by the Connections Coordinator.  The participants are then placed in a 30 week work placement for practical hands on experience.
